One of the problems in writing for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE is that we write what you read about a month before you read it.
That means that you will be reading this after our February 14 Annual Dinner at the Barclay. Dean Thad Seymour will be (or was, take your choice) the featured speaker. From present indications, the turnout may equal last year's dinner for President Dickey (a stag affair), where attendance surpassed that of last year's Club Annual Dinner (mixed, with dancing).
Since the Glee Club will be here on Wednesday, March 28, when wives and dates are invited we thought we would try a stag Annual Dinner this year. Particularly since the date is (or was) Valentine's Day, we immediately had numerous incipient divorce suits on our hands.
Our question is, "What gives?" For several years now, we've had mixed Annual Dinners with dancing, etc. In spite of the fact that the Club went in the hole between $100 and $200 every time, the cry was that it cost too much; and attendance showed a steady decline. Where were all the complainers last year? (The complaints far outnumber the loyal few who were there with wives, dates, or stag.)
As for the March 28 Glee Club Concert, I wish I could give you the details. Unfortunately, they aren't firmed up as of the time of writing. But all of you will receive them in the mails, even if you haven't paid your 1961 Club dues.
As for dues, just about the time you read this, we'll be after you for 1962. Payment will guarantee that you will be fully informed on our activities. (We'd go bankrupt if we sent every mailing to all 700-plus Dartmouth men in the Philadelphia area.) And you have the run of the same club facilities for which the Princetonians pay $37.50 a year, far in excess of our $10 top rate. How about it?
