This business of having to write my copy over a month in advance of publication always presents problems. This (last) month, Wednesday, May 22, to be exact, we're having (we had) our Annual Golf Outing at the Merion Golf Club. Social Chairman Bob Boyd '54 made the arrangements; DeLong Monahan '24 was host member.

The Interclub Softball League is even more schizophrenic. The season started in May, but there should still be a few games left to go as of the time you read this. The departure of last year's Big Green manager, Hank Taylor '56, for Massachusetts left a temporary vacuum, now ably filled by Tom Malcolm '54 and Dave Steinberg '55. You can still get into those last few games if you call Tom or Dave during the day at LO 3-5722 or KI 5-1114, respectively.

Now for an important item which is past on both scores. Twenty-seven out of 48 young men accepted for the Class of 1967 from the greater Philadelphia area (the 48 includes seven non-residents currently attending prep school here) were on hand, most of them with their dads, for our annual "holding operation" at Jim Tindle's '36 Valley Forge Farm on Sunday afternoon, April 21. It looks like we shall be sending another outstanding delegation to Hanover this fall.

They are the harvest of the labors of National Enrollment Committeeman Dr. JohnWolf '27 M, Local Enrollment Chairman Stew Young 'SO, Assistant Local Enrollment Chairman Tom Malcolm '54, enroller extraordinaire Jim Tindle '36, and dozens of other interviewers and enrollment workers. And we sorely need more of that anonymous last group!

We note with regret and sympathy the passing on April 4 of Jim Tindle's mother, who made her estate available for our annual Family Picnic. In her memory, the Club has made a contribution of $240 to our Philadelphia Scholarship Loan Fund. The generosity of alumni responding to the solicitation in connection with our membership campaign provided another $260, making a total increment of $500 so far this year.

This brings the total principal up to approximately $4,000, which is peanuts compared to what other alumni clubs even smaller than ours have done. One of these days we hope to have enough to convert our fund into straight aid instead of loan. But that's going to take a lot of doing.

Last year's increased membership for the first time put contributions out of our general treasury within the realm of possibility. This year's membership of 219 as of May 1 is almost up to last year's final figure. By joining now, you not only guarantee that you'll be kept fully informed of Club activities but also that your Club can do more to help those qualified young men who want to obtain a Dartmouth education.
