Strike up the band, grab a strand, and whirl around the May Pole. There's where this month's news is to be passed on.
STRAND ONE - color: white - firmly held by Harry Bennett and Linda Abbot, who were married February 6, at the Universalist National Memorial Church in Washington, D. C. Linda, a Washingtonian, is a graduate of George Washington University and Harry is an Applied Science Representative for IBM.
STRAND TWO - color: blue - happily held by Tom Bloomer and Arlene Koelbel, who have announced their engagement and wedding date of June 26, in Wellesley, Mass. Arlene is from Wellesley Hills and graduated from Mount Holyoke in 1958. She then taught for a year in Boston before joining the faculty of the National Cathedral Elementary School in Washington, D. C. For the past year and one-half, Tom has been on a challenging job, extensively traveling around the country selling IBM equipment to U.S. Government, installations.
STRAND THREE - color: green - and at the end of this strand you'll find Don Bremner and Dorothy Gibson of Kaila, Oahu, Honolulu, Hawaii. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Punahou Academy in Honolulu and Cornell University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She presently is an electronics programmer for Mutual Life Insurance Co. in New York City. Don re- cently served three years with the Army's Counter Intelligence Corps and then completed graduate work at Cornell in the field of city and regional planning. He is now employed by Community Planning Associ- ates, Inc., West Trenton, N. J. as a senior field representative in Elmira. Wedding bells will ring on July 17, in Hawaii.
STRAND FOUR - color: red - and SteveSanderson and Beatrice Paris of Westchester, N. Y., walk around the pole carrying a sign reading: "We Are Engaged." Beatrice hails from the John Jay School of Westchester and Colby Junior College.
STRAND FIVE - color: navy blue - and rightly so for the Van Hatches are joined by son David Vandenberg Hatch, born January 30, 1960.
When the May Pole stops, the following news is overheard. Dave Picker has been appointed Executive Assistant to the President of United Artists Corp. During Dave's four years with the firm, he has served successively as sales promotion liaison, and Executive Vice President of United Artists Records. He will continue his duties with the record company also. And from Spring Lake, N. J., comes word to the "Pole" group that Ollie Conover purchased his uncle's real estate and insurance firm effective January 1, 1960 and merged it with another Spring Lake office to form the corporation of Dauskin, Brown, Conover, Inc., of which Ollie is Vice President and Secretary. Ollie is handling the insurance portion of the business. He also gives freely of his time to the Monmouth County Dartmouth Club which has elected him its new secretary after his serving two terms as president.
Thanks to the kindness of Scott Olin, Class of 1950 Secretary, a grand article from the "Chicago Daily News" was received which featured our own Judy and Jim Oberlander. The article's caption is "Keeping Up With The Dow-Joneses" and the lead paragraph states: "While most young couples are trying to keep up with the Joneses, the Oberlanders are concentrating on the Dow-Joneses." It's a very flattering account of how Judy and Jim are carefully planning their future by wise investments in stocks. This investment program is not an old-age security plan, but rather a means to fulfill their dream of a trip to South America by 1961, Europe by 1962, and eventually purchasing a gracious home to accommodate their antiques and interest in entertaining. Judy is taking Spanish lessons in anticipation of their trip, and Jim, currently an officer in one of Chicago's major banks, is keeping tabs on wise investments. Interestingly enough there are no budgets in this program. Jim invests Judy's salary while living expenses are met by his own. Sounds like a tremendous plan and a lot of fun. Let's have your itinerary, Jim, when you get it settled.
Also comes news from Scott Olin that PeteMacKinnon has just been elected Chairman of the Chicagoland recruiting and interviewing program for next year. "A big task," states Scotty.
Well that's the full color of our May Day Pole, Gang. Cheers, for now!
