The 1958 Alumni Fund Campaign is in full swing now and latest returns available to this scribe show '53 ranking fifth out of the seven classes, 1951-1957, competing in the Tribal Sweepstakes. Not so good to date, but we were strong in the home stretch last year and I am confident that Ted Spiegel's Class Agents and the Class will respond generously during this vital campaign in order to give practical expression, to our belief in Dartmouth past, present, and future. Our objective has been set at 570 contributions and $7,500. Ted Spiegel tells us that in order to accomplish this task we must add 46 new contributions to the Fund while maintaining last year's average gift of $13.00.

Due to the Capital Gifts Fund soliciting potential contributions of $1,000 and over this spring, the traditional Green Derby competition will be eliminated, including dollar objectives. The Tribal Sweepstakes will be substituted for the Green Derby with competition only at the participation level. It is of importance to note that had last year's Green Derby Competition been conducted considering only participation, we would have lost to the class of 1952 by 2%. Ted tells us that "we have much hard work ahead of us to turn non-contributors into contributors, but it can be done."

The class agent organization is composed as follows — if you have not already been contacted by one of the men in your region, you should be shortly - if you can, why not try and reach one of them first!

Jay Hague writes on Westport, Conn., stationery to say that he resigned his previous position with Scott Paper Company effective the first of the year to accept a job with Dorr-Oliver in Stamford, Conn. Jay states,

My prime function is that of wage and salary administration for the company, and, in addition, I'm enmeshed in all the rest that comprises personnel work, interviewing, recruiting, fringe benefits, and generally, other peoples' troubles. Dorr-Oliver, by the way, designs, develops, manufactures, and sells large scale process engineering equipment for a variety of industrial fields. Saw a number of 5.3's at- the Dartmouth-Connecticut game in the Garden in March; sitting in the same row as yours truly, purely by accident, were Bob Simpson, "Dootch" Henderson, Ed Boyle, Jack Crisp and Gib Murphy.

Tom Wilson received his M.B.A. from Wharton in February and went with P&G in the brand management program of the advertising department. "Currently" Tom says, "I'm out in the field for five months, picking up some sales experience. I've got the Hammond-Gary, Ind., territory."

"Hear ye!! Hear ye!! Be it known to all men present that an heir apparent has been born to the noble family of Napoleon. Hence-forth and forever more to be called Joyce Ellen born on December 13, 1957, weighing 6 lbs., 11 oz. - who hearby affixes her seal as a promise to bring boundless joy to her parents Tom and Irma." Tom writes on Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company stationery mailed from Lynn, Mass., with an address of 5 Braemore Rd., Brookline, Mass.

Also something new has been added to the Melcher family with the arrival of Albert Craig on March 26, weighing 7 lbs., 4 oz. Bert writes that the "babe" arrived on his birthday and was cause for a dual celebration. Bert and Rosemary are living at 99 Dyer Ave., Milton, Mass., while Bert reports for Naval duty daily.

Dave Replogle is now a special management trainee with Doubleday and Company in New York after his study at Princeton University. He reports wife Jeanne, and sons Bill and Bruce are well and looking forward to moving from Princeton to Long Island or Westchester this summer.

Henderson, of Bronxville, N. Y., were reclining at the Hanover Inn over the third of April weekend.

Brock Brower wrote a very fine dramatical piece called "The Tender Edge" while he was at Oxford and it is now experiencing an enthusiastic reception by various amateur and professional drama groups. I was privileged to see a production of it put on here in Stuttgart about a month ago; it was soundly applauded. Brock writes that he has a novella and another one-act play out, along with an article or two. Brock and wife are currently stationed at Headquarters, Army Special Warfare School, Fort Bragg, N. C., with a home address of 215 Weymouth Road, Southern Pines, N. C.

As previously reported, Phil Hoeffer is manager of a new restaurant outside of Reading, Pa., called Stokesay. Recently we received a brochure on Stokesay from Phil and I urge you gourmets who may have the chance to visit him.

Bye for now - Plans are for me to be leaving Europe the latter part of June — Future correspondence can be addressed to 916 Main Street, Hingham, Mass.
