Here in coastal New Jersey we are experiencing one of the warmest winters of the century. But "our man in Hanover," innkeeper RegPierce, advises me that they're having one of the coldest winters on record, and lots of snow. He told me it brought back memories of the wicked winter of 1942-43. When you read this, "the time of the singing birds is come and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land." I think I used that once before, but in case you're interested, try "Song of Solomon II: 11, 12." Impressed? I bet! In any event, with the arrival of the "singing of birds" comes that modernday Solomon from Philadelphia, head agent Tom Adams, with his annual song. Yes, 'tis the time of the Alumni Fund, and Tom's plea is for money, of course, but more so for participation. He's aiming for 80 percent. So there's the challenge, you '46ers. Will say no more (applause). Do have a bit of news for you. TheNew York Times recently reported that one of the men behind the Hudson River development along the Hoboken waterfront is our own Frank Guarini. You'll recall Frank was our one and only congressman. He's now retired and living in the Big City. Don Furber celebrated his 75 th in early February. Joining in were wife Margaret and '46ers Ham Bailey and Nancy, Jud Hannigan and Grace, and ClarkJudge. I talked to Carl Peterson. He retired back in '87, and he and wife Betty have been enjoying life on the oceanfront in Ft. Pierce, Fla. I attended a memorial service on January 30 in Rye, N.Y., for our late classmate SpencerM. Smith. Also attending were Ken Hurd, not only a Dartmouth classmate of Spence's but Vermont Academy as well. Andy Carstensen '45 and Warren Chivers '38 were also there. Ken's in Cold Spring, N.Y., and is keeping active in the flower business. Spence had died in Arizona, and our vice president, Bob Kimball, represented us at the service held there.

The College is strongly suggesting that our class adopt a constitution. Your class officers are working on this, and I shall ask John McClintock to give you more details in his newsletter. That's it for now. If you'd care to share a bit with me, my address is below.
