Where to begin? Well, first, I did get a response to my "Where is Jon Swenson" query? Steve Larson and wife Jan were seen having dinner with Swede in Seattle last June. Steve's visit was cut short as a result of Hurricane Erin removing the roof of his house in Pensacola. Steve also reports that Scott Balcomb is alive and well in Colorado.

Charles "Duke" Oakley was the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Duke is the architect of UCLA and gave a talk on the seismic rehabilitation program at the university. As part of his job he has to upgrade the older buildings to be more quake resistant while maintaining their historic and architectural integrity.

There are a tew corporate notes this month: Randy Cooper is now the vice president of the New Hampshire Bar Association; Bob Gunst was elected to the board of directors of the Garden Fresh Restaurant chain, and Fred Lounsbury has moved into the senior vice president (residential lending) slot of Onbank & Trust Cos., based in Syracuse, N.Y.

On the political front, Bill Yellowtail is seeking the Democratic nomination for Montana's seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Doug Webber and NickNichols, both Montana physicians, are supporting Bill in his efforts. His campaign can be reached at P.O. Box 217, Helena, MT 59624. Words of encouragement or more substantive contributions are always welcome.

We will be having our annual fall minireunion at Homecoming this year on the weekend of October 18-19. Skip Kessler is arranging for a block of rooms to be available at a local establishment to be named later. He can be reached via e-mail at or via snail mail at 10 Wainwright Drive, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107.

Although not connected to our class, I thought you might be interested to learn that a new book, The Dartmouth Story-ANarrative History of the College Buildings,People, and Legends, by Robert Graham '40 is now available. It is published by the Dartmouth Bookstore and can be ordered through them. The class of '32 is giving a copy to each member of the class of 2000, which I think is a great idea (I wish we had thought of it).

All for now. Remember Homecoming. Take care and write.
