For those of you who are residents in the area covered by the "Dartmouth Club of Southern California" you might be interested that a group of alumm, under the auspices of that club, are forming a committee to be called the "Friend Indeed Committee." This committee hopes to be a "responsive presence" for the benefit of any alumnus or Dartmouth family in their area feeling the need of comfort or support in connection with problems rising out of illness) disability; old age, misfortune, personal matters, loneliness, or whatever, on a continuously available basis. One thing the group will not do is undertake direct financial aid or solicit funds for any such purpose. Anyone interested in contacting the committee should write to Alan Leslie, M.D.. 525 North Saltair, Los Angeles, Calif. 90049 or write to me.

It was good to hear from Shorty Here comes da Judge" Johnson. Shorty is Judge of the Boone Superior Court in Lebanon, Ind. He is a lone Democrat in a Republican bastion and the Republican sweep apparently is cause for concern but not Shorty feels that the performance of the incumbents will be sufficient to cause a Democratic sweep at the next election, rle has demonstrated the courage one would expect of a member of the bench by having six sons and then producing a daughter. Congratulations to both Shorty and his oldest son who has been accepted in the Class of '73. With all children in school, Rita has gone back to part-time nursing in order to continue doing something worthwhile. Shorty reports that Bob Cormack and Pete Norton are apt to call him in times of international crisis and that their "fluid conversations" have resulted in answers to almost all of the world's ills. Shorty and family summer near Sanford, Me.; and would be happy to hear from anyone who may be in the area at that time.

Also a pleasure to hear from Dr. Jim Hudson. Jim went to Augusta, Ga., after medical school at Boston University, residency training and a fellowship in renal disease all in Boston. He joined the faculty of Medical College of Georgia where he is now a full professor and chief of the renal division. Jim also keeps busy as a director of the Georgia Heart Association Laboratories for Cardiovascular Research and clinicalical activities including hemodialysis, transplants for renal failure, research and teaching. Jim and Janet have three daughters, ages ten to four, and live in a remodeled carriage house in Augusta.

Congratulations to Dave Auld who is executive vice president of the D. L. Aula Co. which manufactures decorative trim for the automotive and appliance industries. Dave and Joyce and three sons, ages fifteen to two and a half live in Columbus, Ohio where Dave's company is located. WendellGriffith of Short Hills, N. J., who is a management consultant, is doing a business analysis program for D. L. Auld Co. to assist in the establishment of both a short range and long range plan for the company. Dave reports that not only is it a pleasure to work with Wendell but he is a big help as well.

Now we have a classmate to complain to when the stock market misbehaves. JackJansing has just been elected to his first three-year term on the Board of Governors of the American Stock Exchange. He is first vice president and a director of Bache & Company, New York, which he joined in 1960. Previously he was a vice president of Genesco, Inc., for four years, and before that a buyer for Lord and Taylor. He and Shelley and their three children live in Mill Neck. Long Wand.

Don Briggs is an area director of Dale Carnegie Courses in Rochester, N. Y. Don and Anne have a new daughter, now age four, since their family of two boys and two girls were last reported. With the oldest seventeen, they have their hands full. Don and Anne live southeast of Rochester in Penfield, New York.

There was an interesting article recently in the New York Times about Nat Merrill of New York City and his production of "Der Rosenkavalier." Nat is stage director of the Metropolitan Opera and has distinguished himself for the naturalism, traditionalism, and freedom from gimmickry of his productions.

As local political pots begin to boil, we note that Dick Leggat is running for the office of town moderator in Cohasset, Mass. Dick, a partner with the Boston law firm of Bingham, Dana & Gould, has served on the town's advisory committee for six years, the last two as chairman. In addition, Dick is a trustee of the Cohasset Conservation Trust. We wish him good luck in this venture.
