On the eve of Ginney's and my leaving for a two-week vacation at the Tides Inn in Virginia, I have not received word from Hanover as to how many Dartmouth '33 sons actually matriculated with the class of '68. However, I had received word that 11 were accepted and should be able to tell you next month how many of these are in Hanover.

A final word on the Alumni Fund. Let me add my congratulations to Sid Stoneman's on a good job done by '33. However, we still ended sixth out of seven classes in the 1928 to 1934 group. We did contribute $2000 more than a year ago; however, I am sure that there is no reason why we can't do still better and next year put both the classes of '32 and '34 behind us. Sid did a fine job as our Class Agent - so good in fact that the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston elected him president! Lots of luck, Sid, in this new and big responsibility.

You will recall that we reported several months ago that Dr. Phil Byers had been elected president of the medical staff of "some hospital, somewhere." This "some hospital, somewhere" has finally been cleared up — it is St. Luke's in Kansas City, and Page Worthington sent me a copy of the St. Luke's Hospital Chronicle which among other things describes a $5,750,000 building program in progress and includes a picture of Phil.

In July Don Seixas was named manager of container board sales for Weyerhaeuser Co. in Tacoma, Wash. Don, however, will have his headquarters in San Francisco. He has been with Weyerhaeuser since June of 1952 and previously was with American Can Company. His responsibility will be to supervise domestic sales and to coordinate the division shipping container needs as related to production capacities. Congratulations, Don!

Bill Steck '31, sent me a clipping - which after many, many years - brings our records up to date on Herb Moatz. Herb has been elected president of the Collinwood Shale, Brick & Supply Company. Herb has been with this company since 1945 and our records have not had any record of his activities from shortly after graduation. It's nice to hear about Herb and we certainly wish him well.

Dr. Reuben Frodin has been appointed Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the College of City of New York. He had been a writer for the Associated Press, practicing lawyer, and a University Professor in schools in New York and overseas. Most recently he was a program specialist in higher education for the Ford Foundation. The Frodins have two grown children and I will try to give you more about them later.

The Boston Sunday Herald showed a picture of John and Jean Meek with George Ostler, director of the Dartmouth Ski School; and Walter Prager, a former Dartmouth Ski Coach; saying that they were going to study potential development of ski centers and hunting and fishing areas in Colombia. I presume that this was done some time during the summer months although the article did not say and I have not heard anything further from John. The trip should have been interesting, and I would like John or Jean to write to me and we will put the details in the next column.

The Worcester, Mass., Gazette had a feature article on George Davis, who is the owner of Davis Farms, a 750-acre dairy farm with 200 cows. George has a highly mechanized operation with only 3 hired hands who can milk 120 coWs twice daily with direct pipelines from the milking machines to the storage tanks in the milkroom. Off hand I don't know of any other big time farmers who are members of our class, but if there are, I would be glad to hear from them.

The Naugatuck, Conn., News did a feature article back in June titled "The Life and Works of Rep. John S. Monagan." From time to time this column has mentioned the events in John's life as he goes about his business being Democratic Representative from Conn. He was first elected in 1958. In 1962 he was re-elected by the largest majority ever given a Democrat in the 5th District of Connecticut. He has served on and headed many important Congressional Committees and has gained considerable recognition as an expert on Water Pollution. He also chaired the Europe Sub-Committee hearings on "Recent developments in the Soviet Block." He also was a Congressional Observer in the 18 Nation Disarmament Conference at Geneva.

A few thumbnail sketches on class members some of whom we haven't heard from in quite some time.

Fran Cleaves went on from Dartmouth to take his Master's and his Doctorate at Harvard and is now Professor of Far Eastern Languages at Harvard.

John Rockwell graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and is at the present time a partner in the firm of Leibman, Williams, Bennett and Baird in Chicago specializing in corporate and real estate law. He is a member of many legal associations and very active in Alumni Fund for the college serving as head of the Chicago area since 1947. He was also treasurer of the Chicago Alumni Association. Phyllis and John have a daughter, Nancy, who is now in her senior year at Wayland Academy, Beaverdam, Wis. They also have a son, Johnny, who is 14. John reports that their favorite vacation spot is Point Clear, Ala. He is an avid golfer with a 15 handicap. Next time you are in New York. John, bring your golf clubs along and we'll have a 50¢ Nassau.

Right down the street from John Rockwell's office at 208 South LaSalle Street is John Coleman at 228 North LaSalle Street. John merged his company, John E. Coleman, Inc. with Freehling & Co. a year ago. They are commodities and securities brokers. He is a member of the Mid-west Stock Exchange and the four principal Commodity Exchanges in New York and Chicago. Son, John Jr., graduated from Stanford in 1960; daughter, Jean, from Michigan in 1961. Jean's twin sister, Judy, from Wisconsin in 1961. Daughter Mary is a junior at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; and his two stepsons - one a senior at Williams and the other in Senior High School. He married Sherl in May of 1961. Daughter Judy was married in August of 1962 and by this time John undoubtedly has joined the grandpa ranks.
