CLASS of 1905
NOVEMBER 1931 Arthur E. McClary

No other claimants to the honor of being the Class Grandbaby having come to the front, we are publishing a picture of Miss Virginia Lee Doney, born July 11, 1930, and her mother, grandfather, and great-grandmother, just received from the proud grandfather, with the following letter, sent from Gilbert Research Institute, Morristown, N. J. Dear Mac: I was glad to receive your letter written from Newcastle, and to know that you had an opportunity of renewing acquaintance with the boys in that section. Enclosed is a photograph of the "four Gilbert generations," which will give you an idea of how I have weathered the storm over my fifty-sixth birthday and have seen the grandbaby pass her first. My mother and daughter complete the picture.

You will note from the above letter-head that we are now established in our new research work, which has been made possible by a donation which has furnished the equipment and working funds for a most complete scientific establishment. This fund has been established by one who has been impressed with the value of our work and wishes to further it and accelerate it in the interests of humanity and science. The immediate objects of our studies are cancer, tuberculosis, and diabetes, in all of which we have done much work for a number of years.

In these general hard times I am happy to report that our regular business in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products is developing very favorably and coming into substantial volume increases during this year.

Last but not least, I am sending you a check to apply toward the class expenses. I am always glad to hear any news from any of the other fellows, and hope that they will all do their respective bits to help make your job a success.

With kindest regards,

Sincerely,

ED.

The Manchester Union of September 9 carried a picture of Joseph M. Clough and a friend, with a story of their recent auto trip to the Pacific Coast and from Mexico to Vancouver.

We have heard from divers sources that W. E. Chamberlain and family were in Chatham on the Cape during August; that Rufus Day and family spent the summer in Hanover, as usual; that Winslow Peirce enjoyed a vacation at Megantic Club in the Maine woods in September; that George and Mrs. Proctor were with him for a week or so after spending the summer at Marblehead, and that the Bob Hardings were also at Chatham for their vacation, part of their time being occupied in settling a new house which they have built.

Fletcher Hale with Rep. Burton L. French of Idaho sailed for Europe on September 16, to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union sessions in Bucharest.

C. C. Hills is now president of the Norwich Water Supply Company. The company is considering plans for the improvement of the watershed west of the present reservoir. Mary Hills has entered Trafalgar Institute in Montreal, which is affiliated with McGill University. The school is located on the slope of Mount Royal and has an enrollment of about 225. Facilities for winter sports are available, which will appeal to an out-of-doors girl like Mary, although high scholarship is the main objective, both for Mary and for the school.
