I knew it was just a matter of time. But still... browsing in my local "library" the other day, I noticed that the young lady gracing the center pages of Playboy magazine was born on the 31st of August, 1979, fully more than two months after we graduated! And was she ever looking good!?! Did we look like that when we were 18? A slight hint of Lithuanian in her beautiful blue eyes. Who will ever know. Time does indeed march on. Develop your legacy where and whenever yee may. Enough of my lamentations. And happy birthday to ya Vanessa! Man, oh man...All Monica all the time. I love this country! Never a dull moment. Savor those oral moments, when you can get them, and ever heed the truth, for it will surely set you free.

Just getting over a most magical visit with my parents and 9-year-old nephew Colin Joseph. Kids are such a gift. He is truly a wonder. Finished up in the soul country and ran into (literally) one of the nicest guys I know, Pablo J. Krupka, and his fetching pooch Layla. What a trip! Anything can happen on the hallowed streets of Downieville, Calif.

The good word from Dr. Joshua Muskin: "Greetings, friends, family, and colleagues! I finally have a moment to sit down and let you know what has become of me. I think most of you know that Florida State University alerted me last June ('97) that they no longer required my services, nor those of my colleagues at the Center for International Studies, generously giving me a full year to vacate my office. This was fortunate as I almost took them to the limit. But after over 60 applications and almost as many rejections, I finally landed a great position at World Learning, a D.C.-based, international NGO (nongovernmental organization), one that will allow me to continue my international programs work while also providing access to academic opportunities. Some of you may better recognize WL's former name, the Experiment for International Living, for which I worked a few summers, taking groups to France, Switzerland, and Australia, and with which I went to Switzerland as a high schooler. WL has a contracts and grants operation, for which I'll be working, executing development programs and conducting training around the world. It also has a graduate school in Vermont, conferring master's degrees in international and intercultural management and in teaching English and foreign languages, for which I should be able to do some short-term teaching. I've been hired to serve as senior program manager for education and training, a new position and the first primarily technical post that they've had. While this will include many of the same sorts of project development and administration duties I performed at FSU, there will also be more opportunities to interact with the D.C.-based education policy and technical community and to help guide the development of WL's education portfolio, of which I am basically in charge. I'll also be able to continue with research and writing, which is a great attraction.

"We presently have education projects in Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Uganda. My hope (and job) is to help us expand upon this. The challenge is attractive, and the environment for doing, especially my new colleagues, is great. While it's one of the smaller such organizations, at least in the education field, it has several other areas of activity with which I'll also be able to be involved. It's a great chance for me to be a bigger fish in a small pond and to help the organization become more of a 'player.'

"We're also excited as a family about being in D.C. (though last fall I would not have said this), with a much greater variety of cultural attractions and nearness to friends and family. Barbara and I expect to see much more of many of you. Saul remains an energetic, alert, loving, hard-headed, marvelous little boy, with a killer laugh, a soft touch on the court and the ball field, a breath-taking hug, and joy to spare. I hope this finds you well. I also hope that this move means we have a greater chance to see many of you soon. All the best, Joshua."

Whew! All sounds awesome, Josh! Great to hear from you. Other tidbits from around the horn: Bruce Jackman—two kids, Carman (8) and Bruce (4). Just finished Carman's water clock science project. Went to event at Johnny Walker distillery for black alumni from Dartmouth, Cornell, and U Penn. Met up with Eric Grant, Bill Pryor 'B2, Doug Tyson '82, and Da'aga Hill Bowman.

Bob "Heady" Grant lives in Massachusetts and is involved in redeveloping former industrial manufacturing sites, know as "brownfields" in the environmental world. In his words, "I'm willing to accept any dirty sites." He spoke with exgovernor Weld recently on this issue .and is concerned that the field appears to be becoming more popular. Has three kids (Charley, Robby, and Lindsay) and still skates occasionally.

Pat Scully just returned from a trip to final four NCAA basketball in San Antonio. Other Theta Delts on the trip included Roger Phillips, "Big Sully," and John Gogolak, among others.

I leave, you with advice from the heart of Louisiana via our beloved Kenny Beer: You can't lose unless you're caught in bed with a dead woman or a live boy. Take care now, and keep up the good fight. Love me two times, I've gone awaaaaaaaaaay."
