Among this month's news is word that John Hammerschmidt has been nominated as a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, replacing member and former chairman James Burnett. He
has been special assistant to Burnettsince 1985. Priortobis service with NTSB, John served in the 1984 Reagan-Bush campaign and for several months in the office of the vice president in early 1984. While on the NTSB staff, he participated in numerous on-the-scene accident investigations and public hearings conducted by the board. Since 1974, John has served as chief executive of his family's Hammerschmidt Lumber Cos. in Harrison, Ark. His father, John Paul Hammerschmidt, is a Republican congressman from Arkansas.
Robert Carter, an attorney in private practice in Cleveland, and the Cleveland law firm of Arter & Hadden recently announced their participation in the American Bar Association's minority counsel program. The program encourages affiliations between large firms and firms owned by minorities in mutual referral and support relationships. Specializing in municipal finance work, he was a partner in the general corporate and securities practice of Thompson Hine & Flora before beginning his own practice in 1989. He also worked as an assistant Cleveland law director and as a partner responsible for public finance and corporate municipal bond work for the law firm of Forbes Forbes & Teamor. Named by Success Guide, a directory of black resources, as one of ten people to watch this year, Bob is an avid fisherman and father of four.
Rich Crandall is the controller of This End Up Furniture Cos. in Raleigh, N.C. He and his wife, Maggie Ganiec of Nashville, are the proud parents of a ten-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.
Randy Quayle is a school psychologist in Lake Placid, N.Y., with his wife, Sibyl, and two daughters, Laura 6 and Joanna 4. He received his Ph.D. from Penn State in May. In addition to his other credentials, Randy is ranked third in the New England Lawn Tennis Association in men's 35-and-over tennis.
