Written as it is in September, this column is seasonally handicapped by the traditional summertime indisposition of my class mates to take pen in hand and report on matters which might be of interest to The Great Class.
However, Earl Arthurs has been good enough to advise of a mischance whereby he boarded a cruise ship in Lisbon the same day the Ralph and Frank Spechts left it. Earl subsequently enjoyed "a fine lunch" with Dave Smith in August, and later took off on still another cruise, this time on the brand new Crown Odyssey.
Jim Berkey took time for a most interesting letter on some of his activities. (He also called my attention to an egregious error in an early column that attributed to him some health problems that weren't his at all. Jim was then, and has since remained, in the best of health.) He enclosed a photograph of the 1935 contingent on the Dartmouth/ Brown Alumni College cruise (reported last month), adding the distressing information that many of the passengers, his wife Marian included, came down with either digestive or respiratory infections. The '35 group voted the Dartmouth professor and his wife honorary members of The Great Class an action which will presumably be ratified at the September reunion.
Jim is still active in "construction/real estate development/management" as well as a five-year old enterprise involving "vault storage/precious metals/international banking," and now commutes to Virginia from a new home near Palm Springs in the wintertime.
Sax Ziemen reports on the annual '35 Cape Cod party at Bud Cahoon's, with the usual cannon salute, this time to honor the presence of George and Ruth Colton. Others present included the Mercer Curtises, Al Dodds, Bob McLellans, DickKenneys, John Wallaces, and visitors Bucks and Jean Weil.
A number of you have asked for the Temple professor's analysis of the Review contretemps, some calling my attention to other items in the more conservative media which fault the College's handling of the matter. You may wish to check the ad in the September Alumni Magazine (signed by our own Yank Price, among others) which reflects the sentiments of both "conservative" and "liberal" members of the Hanover community. To the best of my knowledge, the Administration investigations, of both the Review students and Professor Cole's role, were conducted in an impartial manner.
And that's all for this month. Peace and love to you all. All y'all.
