I had mentioned in the last issue that Karen Brownsberger Gordon's husband, Steve, was producing some artistic masterpieces up in Alaska. Well, one need not travel all the way to the Arctic to sample such material. Kate Augenblick of NYC fame is pursuing a painting career right here in the lower 48. By the time that you read this, Kate will have just completed a showing of her works at the Leslie Cecil Gallery in NYC. One of the paintings, Study for St. P de V, looked great on the gallery's postcard and would have been reproduced here were it not for the sanitizing effect inherent in turning such a lively picture into black and white.

I know that you are all thinking, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Enough, give us the marriages. We want to know about kids." What an impatient lot. Judy Brier is engaged to Kevin Donnelly, who undoubtedly used to boot undergraduates out of carrels over at Murdough during his Tuckie days. Kevin also has a law degree from B.C. Judy works at Fiduciary, Inc., in Boston.

Also, remember those women in NYC who were dying to get married? Well, Peggy "Blood from Turnips" Epstein decided that enough was enough and agreed to marry David Tanner, "nee," for all practical purposes, at Princeton. Dave let's face it, your formative years were spent there. The two practiced for the grand occasion by taking a pre-honeymoon honeymoon in March with a little jaunt out West for some skiing.

This next item should keep the crew crowd happy. Tom Hull and Julia Stabler are to be married this month. Here's the crucial part; Julia is the owner and, I'm sure, head chef of Ambrosia, a catering business in Boston. (Just think, guys, those days at Thayer's line four can be relived, albeit a bit more expensively.) Julia was graduated from Middlebury and then went on to receive a degree from the Jane Mann School of Cookery in London. Tom remains the whiz kid of marketing in IBM's Hartford office. (Hey, everyone looks good in this column.)

When John Sotos last appeared in this magazine, he was experiencing weightlessness inside an Air Force training plane. Well, that fun paid off, and if you look very carefully at the photo accompanying this column, you can see the silver wings of a flight surgeon just below his left shoulder. You should also notice the same on his two fellow trainees, Lt. Col. Donald Sokol '56 and Capt. Jeff Long '76. The three had just concluded a sevenweek course in San Antonio, Tex., to better prepare them to be physicians for their respective Air Force units. John is in the Air Force Reserves and plans to be finishing his residency at Johns Hopkins in June.

While in San Antonio, John got the chance to visit Jon Bohn, another "Dana library devotee," as John put it. (Images come flooding to mind of humming neon lights, volumes with German names of chemicals, tense med school types. I think "devotee" isn't strong enough; "dependent" might be more appropriate.) Jon apparently has a new identity now as a bigcity lawyer with Ellis and Associates in Houston.

I bring good tidings from W. H. Newbold's Son and Company, the nation's second oldest investment banking and securities firm. Gilbert A. Gehin-Scott was recently promoted to vice president in the firm's Philadelphia office.

I also bring good news from Philadelphia's KYW-TV Channel 3, part of Westinghouse's broadcasting and cable group. Ratings are up. Ah, but the real news is that Linda Button has joined the creative services department. Linda has a fine tradition of broadcasting experience, having worked for another Philadelphia TV station, WCAU, prior to her new post. She and her husband, Mark, live in Bala Cynwyd (a.k.a. Typo-town), Pa.

Dennis Hughes returned to Hanover for more of a union than a reunion as he and Carol Hayes were married at the St. Denis Church last December. Carol's parents live in Hanover. Carol was graduated from Northeastern and works at Mass General. Upon return from their European honeymoon, Dennis headed back to Mac Donald and Wadman in Boston.

Some quick news while I've got space. Van Venable wrote of running into Tim Craig on the first day of classes at Stanford Law last fall. Van's been running elsewhere as well as indicated by her first place finish in Stanford's marathon and her third place finish in the Palos Verdes marathon. She's now set her sights on the Hawaii Ironman.

I keep running into Walter and Nancy Malmquist, which is unusual since Walter (practically an adopted '79) spends a lot of time traveling in his position with the Special Olympics. Nancy still works for Ropes and Gray's D.C. law office. (I thought that everyone had left their first law firm by now.)

We finally come to the celebrated case of Doug Lobel, who never grew up. (It sounds like a great children's book.) Doug had just finished his visit with Chris andAndrea Whitney in Providence, R.I., when he heard the call of the wild and headed south to Florida to update old memories of college spring vacations. Doug has a little more going for him now in light of the 60-foot yacht where he will be staying and his position as a tough guy with the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. But no, it is definitely not true that Doug's presence in Florida was requested by Miami Vice.

Lt. Col. Donald Sokol '56, left, Capt. JeffLong '76, center, and Capt. John Sotos'79, right, recently completed training asflight surgeons in San Antonio, Tex.
