It's hard to believe that the holiday season is almost upon us as you begin reading this column. It's especially hard to believe because I'm writing this at the beginning of September for your middle-of-November perusal. So here we go with something less than "hot-off-the-presses" news.

In August Consolidated Cigar Corporation announced that Barry Nova was appointed senior vice president of marketing. Barry brings to his new position years of experience gathered in both the agency end of the business and in a similar position with U.S. Tobacco.

Donald McCuaig has assumed the additional duties as president of Page Petroleum Ltd. where he also holds the position of chairman and chief executive officer. Page is based in Calgary, Alberta, but Don is fortunate enough to make his home in Vail, Colo. Not bad if you don't mind the commute!

Dr. Lloyd B. Tepper was recently honored by the American Occupational Medical Association. Lloyd was presented the Knudsen Award which is described as the highest honor in the occupational medical field. The award is given to the physician who is deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to the field. LloycT, an authority on industrial toxicology, is the corporate medical director of Air Products and Chemicals and lives in Villanova, Pa. Congratulations from all of us, Lloyd, for this well-deserved recognition by your peers.

For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to be introduced to Peggy and Alan Bialosky's creation, the Bialosky bear, the moment of meeting may be near. The übiquitous bear is about to peer up at you from placemats at your table and down at you from the wallpaper on your walls. Peggy and Alan have recently signed licensing agreements for the use of "Bialosky and Friends" by Imperial Wallpaper and Fallani and Cohen, manufacturers of kitchen textiles. In addition to its appearance in the original book and calendar created by Peggy and Alan, the Bialosky bear appears in Bialosky Bear shops around the country and as a design character on table linens, cookware, paper products, and many domestic and linen products. He also appears in some homes that I am aware of in his Dartmouth Green letter sweater. Who ever said stuffed animals were kid stuff. Certainly not Peggy and Alan!

After many years of occasionally speaking to but not seeing Ben Bowden, we met for lunch recently in Boston where Ben is exec- utive vice president of the Bank of Boston and division head of Massachusetts Banking. Ben has spent his entire career with the bank, one of the largest in the country, formerly known as the First National Bank of Boston. He has risen from management trainee in 1957 to his' present position where he is responsible for the acquisition and management of a con- stantly expanding system of subsidiary banks reaching into every corner of Massachusetts. Ben's area of responsibility includes not only managing the traditional banking activities of lending and safeguarding funds, but also the marketing of those myriad services offered by the modern banking enterprise, and the direction of the bank's activities into areas where the bank's presence can benefit the communities of Massachusetts. A truly challenging task that befits the abilities of Ben Bowden.

The writing of this column requires a constant stream of news if you are to be kept amused and enchanted by its contents. Even for a class which comprises all such outstanding individuals as in the class of 1954, it is not easy to keep that stream flowing. So I am most grateful to Dick Barker, Bill Glover, Dave Mandelbaum, Pete Barker, and Jerry Goldstein who have forwarded news items to me recently. Wouldn't you like to be included in this list of distinguished sources of fact, fantasy, and fiction? All you have to do is drop a newspaper clipping in the mail, or send a short note when you see or hear something of interest about one of our own. It will be greatly appreciated.
