It is hard to believe that the summer has come and gone and that we are already back in print. It will be nice to be hearing from you again, and for many of us to get together for football games and other activities this fall. I have a lot of news to share with you this month, but then will be looking for further word from all of you to fill future columns.
Tom Boyer has been named marketing director of the United Group. The company, which is based in Randolph, NJ, is a leading national manufacturer and installer of industrial and commercial flooring systems. Tom will be responsible for developing new marketing and sales strategies as well as all other marketing related activities. Tom has had a variety of experience in marketing capacities, having served with American District Telegraph in New York City and having been a marketing consultant with the New York firm of Mintz, Pappas and Van Dyk. After Dartmouth, where he concentrated in English and electrical engineering, he obtained a master's degree in music history from Smith College and an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from Columbia University.
And I am pleased to report that another of our classmates in the marketing field, FredericNitschelm, has been named vice president of marketing and account services for Cipriani Advertising Inc. in Boston. Fred has had ten years of experience in marketing and advertising management with companies such as Gillette, Ralston-Purina, and Wm. Underwood Company. After earning his degree at Dartmouth with a major in psychology, Fred received his M.B.A. from Tuck. He has also served as director of sales for Salomon/North America. Most recently he managed a company which he had founded that provided financial and legal services to Massachusetts businesses. Cipriani Advertising feels that Fred's broad, client-side experience and background provide a strong addition to the company's type of management. Fred and his wife Linda, along with their two children, live in Wellesley,' MA.
Just after the deadline for our last column in the spring, I learned that Wally Ford had been named executive director and chief executive officer of the State of New York Mortgage Authority. This is an appointive office to which Wally was named by Governo Cuomo of New York and is quite a significant position. Wally's offices are at 71 Broadway in New York City. I will have more on this in the next column.
Gail Anderson represented Dartmouth at inauguration ceremonies at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Georgia last April.
The news from James Appleton is that he has been named to the board of directors of the Gulfstream Park Racing Association Inc. The thoroughbred racetrack is located in Hallandale, FL. Jim and his wife Mary have been living in Dallas, TX.
1 also have word of the very happy news that Bob Harrington will have married Heidi Van Arsdell by the time this column appears in print. Heidi is our classmate John Van Arsdell's sister and a recent Ph.D. from MIT in applied biochemistry and human nutrition. Bob and Heidi are living in Cambridge, MA.
Randall McFarlane has been named vice president and associate Washington counsel of the U.S. League of Savings Institutions. Until recently, Randy served as legislative counsel and a director in the Office of the General Counsel of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board.
C. Alan Brown has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Cardiology. After graduating from Dartmouth, he received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and he is now in private practice in Santa Barbara, CA. The American College of Cardiology is a nonprofit professional medical society and teaching institution dedicated to ensuring optimal care for persons with cardio-vascular disease or with the potential for developing such ailments. Much of its work is devoted to efforts to prevent cardio-vascular disease.
In next month's column I will have news of the marriage of our classmate, Dennis Jolicoeur, to Cate Smith; the happy event took place in Chester, NH, on August 27.
