Spring is in the air and I can think of a lot better things to do this April morning than sit in my office. However, the world doesn't work that way, so on this note we proceed to the business at hand.

I had a very pleasant talk with DickWoolworth and was brought up-to-date on the Woolworth family. As recently noted in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, Dick was made a trustee of Franklin & Marshall, and for this accomplishment we offer our congratulations. Dick earns his daily bread as president and chairman of Woodstream Corporation, a public OTC company employing 1,100 people and manufacturing adult toys. These include fishing tackle, fiber glass boats and canoes, and wildlife traps. Both of his sons are married. Rick, a 1974 Dartmouth graduate with an M.B.A. from Stanford, is with Dillon Read practicing investment banking. Andrew graduated from Harvard and is working with Dick. Daughter Sally graduated from Simmons last year and is currently working at Foote Cone & Belding (advertising agency) in the media department. Lucy is a sophomore at Smith.

Prudential Insurance Co. executive DaveBarker has been selected to participate in President Carter's Government Reorganization Project. Dave, who resides in St. Louis Park, Minn., is general manager and regional comptroller at the north central home office of Prudential. As a loaned executive, Dave will be working on a special task of the Federal Paperwork Project. His assignment will be to ease paperwork demands on people who deal with government insurance programs. These programs include Social Security, Medicare, Veterans' benefits, Railroad Retirement Act benefits, etc. Dave's job will be to identify and implement changes in the government's forms. Amen! The loaned executive program was initiated last fall when the White House sent 1,200 requests for help to corporations, universities, and other institutions. Dave was selected by Prudential because of his managerial experience and analytical skills.

Ed Lathem will assume a new position at Dartmouth at the end of this academic year. His appointment as a Woodward Fellow will assure continuance of an active association between the College and its long-time librarian. Under his Woodward Fellowship appointment, Ed will continue to exercise oversight regarding matters associated with College history, its materials, and dissemination. He will, as Woodward Fellow, extend his editorial and scholarly activities, both personally and on behalf of the College, and from time to time be concerned with special academic initiatives at Dartmouth. In addition, he will be involved with major benefactions to the College, including the maintenance of close institutional relationships with donors and others.

We journey to Hanover April 29 for the annual class officers weekend and will report to you in the next column the latest happenings from the Hanover Plain. That does it for now.
