A call to Stew Hoagland last night at his home in Bernardsville, N. J., secured the good news that he has recovered from major surgery (removal of a section of his large intestine) early in August at the Morristown Memorial Hospital. He said he is working regularly and feels fine. His August 7 issue of the '28 Campaigner was written in the hospital after he had been there a week and bore the heading: Greetings From Bedpan Alley.

Congratulations and thanks from the Class to Bill Lary and his assistant class agents for raising $43,085 in the Alumni Fund campaign. To increase our giving by $4,000 was a notable achievement.

Give a rouse for the new president of the Dartmouth Club of Sarasota, Don Solis, whose picture appeared in the club news section of the June issue of this Magazine.

Gene and Fran Magenis of Coral Gables, Fla., and John and Ethe! Nixon of Boston took an eight-day trip to Ireland in June, sponsored by the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Greater Boston. They flew from Logan Airport to Dublin and after three days there went to Limerick until the return trip from Shannon. Gene says there were plenty of sightseeing trips which one chose as desired and that the whole trip was a lot of fun and not too exhausting. He hopes the Boston alumni will schedule a trip to South America. This was the twelfth summer Gene and Fran have spent in Williamstown, Mass.

Jerry and Rella Warner enjoyed their trip to Switzerland the last week of May and to England and Scotland the first week in June, even though it rained most of the time.

Attending the Alumni College in Hanover in August were Marion Blyth of Norwich, Vt., Clark's widow, Red Jenkins of Far Hills, N. J., and Clark and Henrietta Gearhart of Boca Raton, Fla. Marion and Clark had attended many of the Alumni Colleges and Red had attended five. Marion had the '28ers and some other friends over for cocktails.

Jim Gillard of Muskegon, Mich., sent us a clipping showing him standing beside his 145-pound sailfish which he caught off Acapulco while fishing with his boys, Doug, 15 and Paul, 14. Jim has retired as a physician (at the time of our 40th Reunion he had delivered 8,000 babies). His wife died January 30, 1974 from cancer. Since her death he has taken his "two wild Indians" to Hawaii, Acapulco and last sPnng to Nassau. The last trip included his four children from his first marriage, plus three spouses - ten in all. He obviously enjoys good health because he plays 18 holes of golf every day he doesn't go fishing for lake trout in Lake Michigan.

It is with sadness that we report the death of two more classmates, Vic Borella on July 9 and William F. Flynn April 15. Vic was with us the first two years, worked for two years and graduated with the Class of 1930. Vic died in Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover. The funeral services in Hanover were attended by many Dartmouth friends including LaneDwinell, Vic's brother-in-law, who gave a touching eulogy, Myles Lane and NelsonRockefeller '30.

Harold Fields, who retired eight years ago as a professor of history at Michigan State, says he suspects he is the oldest '28er, having just turned 75. In spite of that he drove 4,000 miles in July on a trip to Toronto, Ottawa, Montpelier, Vt., and various cities and towns in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He was looking for records in state and provincial archives and enjoying the scenery. He would have liked to go to London and Paris again this year but thought it would be prhibitively expensive.

Sink Sinclair of Steubenville, Ohio, writes that a few months ago he got a call from JimMontfort '29 in Washington suggesting that he come to D.C. for a reunion with Wes and DorrisWood who were stopping there enroute north from Florida, which he did. They had a great evening and the next day went over to Alexandria to call on Dave and Alice McCathie. Sink says Alice has made great progress since their unfortunate car accident.

A note from Monk Davenport reports a surprise visit from Craig Haines and a phone call from Hammie Hammesfahr. Monk is bothered by what he calls "my damn emphysema."

Win Taylor drove up from Mt. Kisco, N. Y., to Heritage Village in Southport, Conn., and called his old neighbor Ev Fields. Ev rounded up Craig Haines and they had a brief reunion.
