In my last month's copy, I mentioned that I suspected that I had probably buried some news in a mass of papers between moving from suburban Philadelphia to Manhattan, where as of the time of writing my new apartment still looks like a warehouse with over forty unpacked cartons.
I have, however, unburied to date at least some of the news. I start with Hawaii, our 49th state, a delightful cluster of distinctive islands which I visited a few years back. We have three classmates who came from Hawaii, none of whom is presently there.
The '5l flag has now been replanted among the palm trees by Jule Olney, wife Andrea, and daughter Julianna. He is now vice president of Finance Telecheck International in Honolulu. Aloha, and keep a ready welcome mat out, Jule.
We also have word from another '5l who has been over the other side of the international date line in the Pacific. Commander Dick Ellis, USN (ex-Mass., as opposed to Conn.), recently saw duty as Supply Officer on the "USS Jason" in Vietnam waters. Wife Barbara and daughters Kim, 14, and Pam, 11, were stationed in La Jolla, Calif. Since July, Dick has been on the faculty of the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va.
Back on the "big island," as Hawaiians refer to the continental United States, PeteKrehbiel has been named general counsel of ACCO (American Chain & Cable Co., Inc.) of Bridgeport, Conn. Pete, whose law degree is from NYU, joined ACCO in 1964 as patent and trademark counsel. He has also been secretary of the corporation since 1967.
Dick Kahn, who holds a Harvard M.D., was recently promoted to Associate Professor of Psychiatry by Boston University Medical Center's School of Medicine. Charlie Hood has been elected to the board of directors of H. P. Hood and Sons, New England dairy and food company. Already treasurer of the corporation, he was also named secretary.
Doug Frandsen is now assistant general sales manager for Marketing of Armstrong Cork Co., Lancaster, Pa. He was most recently marketing manager for the company's Corlon product line, which position he assumed in late 1967. Doug joined Armstrong in 1954
Justin Smith, treasurer and sales manager of Seymour Smith & Son, Inc., Oakville, Conn., has been elected an associate director of the State National Bank of Connecticut. He is a director of the Connecticut Public Expenditures Council, a former president of the Watertown Rotary Club, and a former director of the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Waterbury, Conn., Justin holds a Tuck School M.B.A. as well as his Dartmouth A.B. After graduation, he served in the Air Force and worked for Eastman Kodak before joining Seymour Smith & Son.
CLASSMATES SPEAK OUT! In these times of trouble and travail, I sometimes wonder if too many of us swallow our consciences and don't say what is really on our minds and consciences because we are afraid "Big Brother" may be watching.
Fred Lord of Stockbridge, Mass., had no such fears when he spoke on behalf of the National Council to Repeal the Draft and the American Friends Service Committee on the subject of the draft at an Amherst, Mass., meeting. Fred holds a Harvard M.B.A. and served as an ensign in the U. S Navy Supply Corps in the Pacific.
