CUPID'S CORNER

It was a few days before a young man's fancy was due to turn lightly to thoughts of love, March 17 to be exact, that the news was released regarding the intentions of Clark W. Collins and Miss Phyllis Emelyn Jones of Winchester, Mass. Phyllis is with United Air Lines and a grad of Colby Junior. Clark graduated from Knox College in Illinois after leaving Dartmouth and now is a pilot with Pan-American Airlines. No date was announced for the nuptials.

A good, informative letter from Galen Jones included the fact that daughter Gwenith Grace had her first birthday on April 15. Brother Galen Randolph will be three on August 3. Galen and Edith now live in Del Mar, a few miles north of his job with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at La Jolla, Calif., the assignment being a research microbiologist in marine microbiology. After a Master's received at Williams in 1952, Jonesie garnered his Ph.D. from Rutgers in 1955. His thesis was "Fractionation of stable isotopes of sulphur by microorganisms with particular reference to the sulfate-reducing bacteria." Can't wait for the Reader's Digest to run it! Seriously, he also taught at Scripps and turned out eight scientific publications.

Good news from Jim Stevens! William Tompkins was born November 12, 1958, weighing seven pounds, nine ounces. Jim and Katharine recently moved to Winnetka to give "Tommy" lebensraum. In January Jim made a trip to Hanover to recruit for his employer, Inland Steel. Saw Gene Hotchkiss while in town, too. Back in the Windy City, Jim says our classmates have taken over the local party machine, as follows: Tom "Red" Rowe has been elected prexy, Hugh Brower is the scribe, and Si Morand handles the funds. Well done, gents.

A young daughter was born to Tom and Cindy Ringe last June 6. The little miss is Cynthia Kirvin and tipped the scales at seven pounds.

On February 2 Dick and Marion Healy had a son, Garret Lawrence. Weighing seven pounds and four-and-a-half ounces, Gary now resides in Cedar Grove, N. J.

First of half a dozen March additions was Thomas Charles Laing, born on the first. Jim and Pat Laing have three more boys and a girl. Jim teaches at the Milwaukee Country Day School.

A week later, on March 8, a boy interrupted a sermon being listened to by Bob and Joan McIlwain. Junior Robert Moore was a seven pound, four ounce arrival.

Next day in Northampton, Don and Priscilla Freund pulled their third female rabbit out of a hat. Pamela joins Melinda, aged two, and Alison, four and a half.

Mama-san and papa-san, known locally as the Tom Warners, also like March 9 for their seven pound, one ounce daughter Lynn Marie put in her appearance then.

Lucky Friday the Thirteenth for Jim and Betty Moore. They were delighted to welcome eight pound, one ounce, Melinda Mitchell on that day.

Finally, at this point, we are happy to report the latest on the situation as a brand new relation for Bob and Helen Tredwell. Elizabeth Anne was a nine pounder on March 24.

INKADENTAL INTELLIGENTZ

Two dozen and one showed up March 19 for the Class Dinner mastermined by Clift Whiteman. Understand it was a good show and some good thoughts were unearthed regarding our tenth reunion next year and satellite movements between now and then. You can expect to hear more about these via Duke Duffy's "50-50" epistle and from regional organizations which our chairman "Crash" McIlwain expects to have operating soon. Think we will let the list of attendees show forth in "50-50," but we might mention that with the regionalization we hope to report news by geographic areas from time to time as we acquire sufficient items. One small sample appears further along in this month's notes.

On the legal lines are such stalwarts as Gordon Hood in Cincinnati where he has his own practice. Gordo got his LL.B. from the U. of Cincy. He and Jo Ann have three youngsters, Gordon now seven, Robin (Kathleen Jo Ann) born in 1954, and Bradford who will be two on May 24. Roundo is keeping pace with Bill Pulley who also has three, and he reports Jim Hutton is with the investment brokerage house of W. E. Hutton & Co.... Lee Sarokin, a grad of Harvard Law and practicing attorney in Newark, N. J., has been named an instructor in real estate law at Rutgers' Newark division.... Bill Reid left his practice in Niagara Falls to accept a position with the Glidden Co. legal department on February 1. After Cornell Law he spent two years with Dudley, Stowe and Sawyer in Buffalo and then went with Rice, Rice, Hustleby and Chace, the honeymoon hamlet. Bill and his wife, the former Jean Tower, have two children.... Charlie Wilkes is an attorney with Bauer and Williams in Saginaw, Mich.... Lud Truscott is a lawyer with the State Department in Washington, D. C., first anniversary coming up next month. Lud and Nancy have seen only a couple of redskins of late, Bill Hill, and Boze Laws, but they sent a photo from the Buffalo "Courier Express" showing squash doubles champions Bill Dann and Nels Graves. Nelother racket is acting as veep and sales manager of Wood and Brooks Co. in the bison berg.

Merritt Osborn is district representative for Heller Tool Co. in Cleveland.... Bob Oliver works as assistant sales manager at International Metal Products Co. in Phoenix. Whit Williams is selling for Container of America around Phillie and living Paoli, Perm a.... Ron Bohle is selling for Crane Co. in West Palm Beach and residing in Lake Park, Fla.

Jim Melville started his own business Mel-lit ville Equipment Co., in Pittsburgh on April 1. Margaret and George H. Melville II born May 31 1957. "trust that all Dartmouths will buyh their material handling equipment from whether they need any or not, of course. Good .luck with your venture,James!

Nob Hovde is senior account exec on the Ajax Cleanser account for McCann-Erickson in. New York. He and Michele have two daughters, Laurence Catherine born in Hadelberg, Germany, four years ago, and V ronique Emelie Who will be two next October.

A good letter from Dick Dale informs us that he is personnel director for Resistoflex Corp in Roseland, N. J., with Ned Hunt 51 his right hand man. Dick says the company manufactures flexible hose lines for hydraulics and fuel lines, fabricates Plastics, and makes some chemical piping. Dick and Nancy, alais "Sam," have girl, Diane, about eighteen months old now. Dick is prexy of the local Rotary club and together with Dave Weld '49, who is a director, is working to raise some funds for the Olympics and to further the ideals of sports. True to his word, Dick manages an occasional stint on the Mad River Glen ski patrol.

NUTMEG NEWS

As mentioned above, we are going to introduce some new departments into, these ramblings, and here's the first abbreviated edition concerning activities of a. few necticut Yankees. Later we hope enough news will pour in from other centers of 1950 Dart mouth population to warrant sections about Bostonites, New Yorkers, Alaskans, and so on.

Webb Gault has been named financial editor of the Hartford "Courant as of March 1. Webb joined the firm in 1954 as editor of the paper's employees' paper.

Rog Frechette passed his Connecticut bar exams in February. More on hIS activities are lacking at present however

Dave Beeman was elected vice president and director of Sanitary Paper Mills, Inc. February 5. Dave had been with Perkins-Goodwin for six years and Sanitary Paper two years ago when both firms became associated.

On March 5 Bernard Batycki was made supervisor of the budget and research in the Hartford finance department With eight years' experience working for the city, Barney most recently was a senior administrative analyst.
