Congratulations this month to Hank Odbert upon being named Program Director for Psychology, Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of the National Science Foundation. This new connection follows several years at the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas where he was Chief of Technical Information in the Intelligence Division and subsequently became Chief of Technical Operations Division, Hank and his family will now live in Bethesda, Md.

At the meeting of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association in Hanover on September 26, Dick Barnard, Secretary of the Dartmouth Club of the Mystic Valley, was elected Vice President of the Association for the coming year.

For those of you who may have missed it, we commend to your attention the October 4 issue of Time Magazine which covered so well the story of Nelson Rockefeller in his race for the governorship of the Empire State. Everyone in the class certainly wishes him well.

The paucity of news this month indicates it is a good time to catch up on our address changes which follow. Somewhere in the list you should find someone who owes you some money or that possibly you owe some money to.

This column seldom gets the opportunity to report anything on the doings of Cliff Michel and so in his absence we can report that the New York Times recently carried a very lovely picture of Mrs. Clifford Michel and her dog. Cricket. Mrs. Michel is chairman of a fall theater benefit series for the Spence-Chapin Adoption Service.

The Bowlens enjoyed a long letter from Gilly Gilbert which we received recently. Unfortunately we can report only a portion of it, not because of the suitability of subject matter but rather for space consideration. Gilly who is Station Manager for KTRH-FM (fine music) writes from Houston, Tex.:

As you can see from the letterhead I am still at it fighting a battle for culture in Houston, and succeeding slowly but surely. Even though I l ave a full-time assistant and a part-time employee, we have more to do than we can accomp ish. Therefore, we have to confine ourselves to essentials, like selling time, writing copy, keeping up with the latest in recordings (including stereophonic), programming a month in advance, being my own secretary and accountant. I love the work or I wouldn't be celebrating my fifth year which will be the sixth November first.

Besides operating KTRH-FM I am one of the soloists at Christ Church Cathedral, Episcopal. No, I don't have time lor appearing in pays, not enough hours. I miss it, but my present occupation is a combination of my business, musical and theatrical training. Oh, I have appeared on TV several times. People remark that it it weren't for Gilbert there would be no Good Music on FM in Houston. Whenever I feel discouraged all I have to do is read some of the thousands of letters from listeners.

In ending this epistle, I love my work and enjoy life. Had a week's vacation in Mexico City, wonderful.

In the far West we hear that Hugh Mitchell is running in the Democratic Primary in the second district. Good luck to you, Hugh.

On Saturday, August 30, Miss Bonnie Marion Bolie, daughter of Al and BonnieBolte became the bride of Mr. Richard Arnold Anderson in Greenwich, Conn. The Hue attended Greenwich Academy and was graduated from Greenwich High School. She attended Boston Conservatory of Music and Goucher College and the groom attended Yale University and was graduated from Wesleyan University. He is now at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University.

Down in Lexington, Mass., the School committee has just appointed Snub Poehleras interim Superintendent of Schools for this year, until a permanent appointment is made by the School Committee. Since 1954 Snub has been Coordinator of Elementary School Education in Lexington.

Your Secretary has seen only a few members of the class in recent weeks. A month ago at the Hotel Hawthorne in Salem. Mass., we ran into Ed Carroll who was present at a local Dartmouth luncheon at the hotel; and at the Penn game we saw the Herb Chases and the Poolers from a distance. And then there is this fellow McFarland. He was at the Lafayette game, at the Penn game, will be at the Brown game, and I am convinced that wherever Dartmouth plays this fall, McFarland will be in the stands.

Finally, let us just report on the Bowlens to say that they are fine, thank you. Chris after finishing Middlebury is now working for the New England Home for Little Wanderers in Boston and Marti, freshman in high school, is giving Mother a nightly workout in Latin while Father tries to act the tutor in algebra and general science.
