It is more than good to be back in Hanover after spending the winter away from home and away from the agelessness of Dartmouth. On top of that your Secretary, two days after his return, was catapulted into the midst of the annual meeting of the Alumni Class Officers, presidents and chairmen, secretaries, treasurers, class agents, bequest chairmen, newsletter editors, reunion chairmen and such. It is a most interesting group, from the oldest to the youngest, the Secretary of '89 to that of '60 - a span of 72 years of Dartmouth men - all deeply interested in the College, its past, present and most of all its future.

Among the offerings were the opening reception, two dinners for class officers with awards for special accomplishments by some of the group, remarks from an undergraduate, presentation of plans for the Hopkins Center, a talk by President Dickey, countless business meetings for the groups present and much informal discussion among many men. An afternoon was left open for getting re-acquainted with today's Dartmouth, warm in the bright sun with the sharp tang of the North still in the air, but spring just bursting through on every side. There were undergraduates at play on various athletic fields, baseball, track, lacrosse and tennis, to form a spectacle for many. Others, including your Secretary, enjoyed a new experience for him, the Harvard-Dartmouth lightweight crew races on the Connecticut River, some two miles above the Hanover-Norwich bridge.

The outstanding impression of this annual affair was the evidence of the interest and love of all present for the College, their desire to work for its good, the immense amount of thought, planning and work already given to the affairs of the College, the promise of much hard and rewarding work ahead of us all. Most impressive was the deep faith in the future of Dartmouth among those most closely responsible for its welfare, President, Trustees, the Alumni here represented, Faculty and Students. Something of what your Secretary was privileged to see and hear, you will see recorded in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and I only wish I had the ability and the space to tell you more of this atmosphere that I found on my return to Hanover.
