During the past month two letters have come from my ever thoughtful Herm Farwell. Herm keeps up a correspondence with many of the class and I usually count on him for news regarding them.
In his letter of April 9 he reminds me that Charles Dudley is feeling much better after being in the hospital for repairs. I think that Charles had an operation similar to mine of last year. Keep up the good work, Charles, so that you may be feeling fine when next we meet. I can assure you that that operation certainly helps a lot.
He also writes of a recent visit of Percy Dorr to the hospital in Boston where he underwent a serious operation (his spleen, I think). Perce is much better and we can hope that he soon will be as good as ever. Frank Drake visited him there and found him in splendid shape. Frank ("Ducky") straightway reported to Herm.
On April 17 Herm wrote to acknowledge my too-small contribution to the Alumni Fund. Then he goes on to tell of a nice call from Dalrymple and his wife. You may remember that a year ago X received a call from those nice people in Florida.
Ben Riley sent a most welcome letter on April 18 — the anniversary of Paul Revere's ride - the beginning of it, anyway. Ben reports that Art Ruggles has quite recovered from the arthritic condition that kept him from our reunion last June.
I want Ben to know that I certainly appreciate his frequent letters. I could wish that more classmates followed his example.
My daughter and her husband have re- turned from their two months' stay in Asia and Europe and are once more at their home in Weston, Conn. Her husband is an importer in New York. He was summoned to Japan.
I wish you could all be with me on this beautiful, clear, blue day. In the garden there is a riot of color. Over all there are great Easter lily blooms. I guess I am wise to plan staying here all summer. We plan to deed our Maine place to the grandchildren. Seventeen hundred miles is too much of a drive for folks when they get to be our age. Maybe we will go to our daughter during the month of June - fly or by train.
Have a good summer, dear boys. Be thinking up personal news to .send me in the fall. God bless you all! Maybe my blessing is without value, but, such as it is, it's yours.
By George! I forgot to tell you about the lovely humming bird X found the other day, hanging over the garden blossoms. Did you know that twice each year those beautiful, tiny creatures fly across the Gulf?
