First annual award of a four-year Dartmouth scholarship was made by the Dartmouth College Alumni Club of Worcester (Mass.) County to Robert J. Bagdasarian of Worcester Academy at the annual meeting of the club at the Svea Grille, Shrewsbury, Mass., May 23.
Donald G. Mix '20, former club secretary for many years, made the presentation to Bagdasarian, slated for Dartmouth in September, on behalf of Alton K. Marsters '30, Scholarship Fund chairman, who was unable to be present.
Joseph G. Byram '32 was elected president, succeeding C. Lane Goss '25. Others elected were Sidney C. Crawford '15, first vice-president; Cyril F. Penney '25, second vice-president; Samuel H. Snow '40 and Harry C.Midgley Jr. '40, re-elected secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Named to the Executive Committee were Charles C. Brooks Jr. '36, James A, Crotty '42, Dr. Harold H. MacGilpin Jr. '39, Richard S.Russell '49, Parker Trowbridge '13, DonaldP. Cote '19 and Mr. Goss. Nine of the 11 Worcester County students accepted for the Dartmouth Class of 1955, and their fathers were guests of the club. Two Dartmouth movies in color, "My First Week at Dartmouth," and "Dartmouth Outdoors," were shown.
Other members of the Scholarship Fund Committee are Morton Jaquith '29, FrancisX. Reilly Jr. '38, Benjamin W. Ayres '20,Courtland J. Cross '50, Superior Court JudgeJames C. Donnelly '05, Francis A. Harrington '24 and Messrs. Goss, Midgley and Cole.
