The St. Louis area alumni are saddened at news of the death of Frank T. Hodgdon '96, on October 2, at his Hannibal, Mo., home. Frank was President of the Farmers and Merchants Bank & Trust Co. of Hannibal, and is survived by his wife, three children and one grandchild.
The Thursday luncheons at Gerken's continue to be popular with the St. Louis Dartmouths and the following are more or less "regulars"—Ernie Curtis '36, Tom Curtis '32, Harry Deckert '35, Russ Fette '39, Ernie Grinnell '42, Carl Holekamp '42, Ted Hinson '41, Jim Jones '38, -Marty Kerwin '35, Joe Logan '42, Jack Merrill '30, John Naylor '41, Gerry Peterson '43, Boyd Rogers '35, Leigh Turner '04, and Bob Turner '33.
Tom Curtis '32 made it! In the November 7 elections he was chosen U. S. Representative from the 12th Missouri district, defeating the Democratic incumbent, Raymond W. Ivarst, 109,669 to 105,955. Tom is one of three Republicans among the 13 Congressmen from Missouri. His district includes all of St. Louis and a part of St. Louis County.
Leonard Martin 'l3 was recently elected president of the alumni, Manual Training School of Washington University, St. Louis, and Dr. Earl Poe, Jr. '42, is serving as chairman, West County Community Chest Fund. A bow is due each of these gentlemen.
John P. Granfield '46 is a new arrival in the St. Louis area and now lives at Edwardsville, Ill. John is another Dartmouth member of the F.8.1, organization.
Ray Wolfe '43, Director of Athletics at John Burroughs School, is having another fine year with his football team.
While on the subject of football, the Michigan game at Ann Arbor drew FrankCornwell '35, Dave and Nancy Biggs '42,Joe Logan '42, Charley Edison '43, and Howieand Edna Mullin '27, from the St. Louis area. All were high in praise of the fight put up by the Green.
As we write these notes, several St. Louis alumni plan to attend the big Western powwow at Denver—Torn and Sue Curtis '32, Bob and Genevieve Turner '3:3, and BoydRogers '35. We believe Bill Rench '34 is also planning on the trip, and several more may decide to trek out to the sort of conclave all of us out here west of Trenton, N. J., approve. On November 13 the St. Louis Club will have their first winter meeting at the home of Leigh Turner '04, and we are hoping to have Director of Admissions Al Dickerson '30 as a guest of the occasion.
Zeke Straw '48 is moving from St. Louis area to New Hampshire. We will miss Zeke, and wish him all luck back East.
Bob Kerwin '43 was at lunch October 5. Bob is with the Rockefeller Foundation at Istanbul, Turkey, and was back in St. Louis on a visit to his family, including Marty Kerwin '33, Dan Kerwin '35, and Hugh Kerwin '48.
Pierre Grace '33 gave with cigars on October 2, honoring the arrival of Stephen Louis Grace.
