The Detroit Pow-Wow apparently brought together a goodly representation of the Class to enjoy the festivities. Ort Hicks reports that the Friday evening cocktail party was attended by Joyce and Walt Prince, Helen and Jerry Cutler, Dora and Jigger Hodgdon, Figand Figgette Newcomb, the Jim Dodges, RogWilde, Jack FLubbell, Joe Vance, Ky Frost and Bill Embree. Bill Jr. and his bride were also on hand, with Ort's daughter Carol and her husband Jim Smith '49, who came along with Ort and Lois for the big weekend. On Saturday night the same group were joined by Marion and El Fisher and Florence and JimTaylor. Ky Frost's wife Jean was at the game, as were Ken Thomas, Bob and Helen MacDonald.
The always busy John Sullivan conducted the Alumni Council meeting Friday afternoon, but had to leave before the cocktail party en route to Germany via plane. The out-of-town firemen had hoped to see some of the local classmates: Doc Fleming, PaulMott, Fritz Bowman, Hump Bowen, NormCarver, Mauvie Stetson, Frank Rood, PepHall and Maurie Townsend. Probably some of them were at the game but got lost in the crowd. The game itself never did trickle through eastern radio sets so we folks back east had to be content with what scores the announcers gave us between plays of other games. Bob Mac Donald said there was a good party at Shulers in Marshall, Mich., the night before the game and an especially enthusiastic gathering at the Hayes Hotel in Jackson, Saturday night.
George and Madeline Harris' son George Jr., who graduated in June '50, was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy the day he graduated. He led the 15th Assault Wave on Red Beach in Korea, September 18. His eight landing barges carried So. Korean marines who, he says, are a great group and tough fighters who needed only training and equipment to make them tops.
Art Duryea moved to St. Louis August 18. He is Area Section Chief; of Medicine for the V.A. which includes eight states and 30 installations. Good news! Art is getting closer to Hanover all the time and we're expecting to see him next June at the 30th. Bill Fow-ler's new law office is at 84 State St., Boston. If in trouble in Beantown, call Capitol 7-5870. Chuck and Tina Morean's daughter Christina is a freshman at Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla. Their son Alex is a senior at Storm King School, Cornwall-on-Hudson, headed for Dartmouth. Their younger boy John is still in grammar school in Glen Ridge, NT. J.
Gordie Merriam, who retired from the State Department in '49, is living the life of a country squire at Blueberry Farm, Damariscotta, Me. He has about completed the alterations on the farmhouse and the whole family likes it there a lot. The Ben Tenneys visited them last summer. Tom and BettyCleveland have announced the engagement of their daughter Joan to Mr. John C. Tayler of Detroit, Mich. Joan graduated from Colorado College and the Nursery Training School of Boston.
We are indebted to Rex King for the news that Assistant Vice President Guy Wallick will administer the Northern California and Nevada area for Pacific Tel and Tel during the absence of the Vice President on a temporary assignment in Washington, D. C. Herrick Brown, on a visit to Worcester to see his daughter, phoned and he promised we would get together his next trip.
At this point we are glad to sign off in favor of the honor roll of a great Class who won the Green Derby last June. MERRY CHRISTMAS, and let's do it again next year.
