Having just come in the house after watching Dartmouth trounce Northwestern in a basketball game on this very first day of 1949 it seems appropriate to continue along in that vein and report the deeds and doings of this esteemed class.

Dropping back a few months now to mention some of the gayer happenings at the Harvard game last fall: Polly and Dick Hill report a jolly time with "Dutch" and CarylCotton and "Bunny" and Dana Chase. All six of them made the Hill home headquarters that weekend, and when Sunday rolled around had that same old feeling all of us knew in Hanover after a houseparty weekend and too many milk punch parties as of a Sunday A.M.

Saturday evening after the game it seemed that most of the '41 class made a bee line for Bill Philbrook's now famous "Smith House." Seen there, in addition to the aforementioned group, were "Unc" Richardson, Lyn Thompson, "Had" Ward, Jay Baker, Dick Tousley,Art Hills, Ed Martin, and Jack Waring. There were probably others around and about that escaped the alert eye of my reporter, but the above were definitely noted.

It's always interesting to note the many activities connected with the College with which our classmates are associated, and none is more important than the alumni interviewing committees. There are several in our class playing key roles in interviewing candidates for Dartmouth, and it is at this time of year that their work really begins to pile up, and until the end of March there are not many free evenings they can enjoy. Those serving as chairmen of their respective alumni interviewing committees include Don Taber, Frank Hall,Jack Larrigan, John Kelley, and Tom Oakes. It should be pointed out that there are many other classmates serving actively on these committees which these men are heading up. and we regret we don't have all their names to mention along with the chairmen, but the time and efEort devoted by them is as important as those whose names have been listed.

Back in November the announcement was made that Miss Mary Ann Dunham of Fort Worth, Texas, and William F. (Red to you) Power were engaged. Some of us had been wondering when the "Redman" was going to see the light, and it took a gal from Texas to do it—blew the top right out of that Hercules powder keg.

Another rather belated report is the marriage on May 27, 1948 of Dr. James D. McGaughey to Videen Margaret Parke. Sorry to be so late with the good news, Jim, but some of these news items reach us by that slow boat to China.

Here is a bit about Clint Reynolds. Clint has recently joined the law department of the Mass. Protective Association Inc. and the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. Don't knowr quite how he did both things at once, but I'm no lawyer. Prior to his resent association, Clint had served as law clerk to a Justice of the Mass. Supreme Court. Clint finished Harvard Law in 1947 having spent the several years since his graduation as a radar instructor in the Air Force.

How many of you guys listened to the radio on December 19 I don't know, but those of you who were tuned in to ABC at 4:30 P.M. on that day heard old Mike Guida star in his second successive appearance on the "Metropolitan Opera Auditions." Several months ago we had the flash that Mike was a budding opera star, but had no idea his career was so well established.

Only room for a little more this month, as we must save some space for the listing of all the Alumni Fund contributors in this issue. So we will close this up with the most recent scoop on Jack Delander—one of those guys we seldom hear from, you know.

On Nov. i Jack was promoted to the position of Norfolk District Manager for Shell Oil. Jack went to Norfolk early in 1948 on the sales staff. He had joined Shell in 1941, but soon afterwards joined the Navy, became a pilot, later had his own squadron of Corsairs, and to top it off was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses prior to cessation of hostilities. He returned to Shell in 1945, and held a sales position in Washington, D. C., where he was a member of the Board of Trade, and also a leader in naval reserve activities. Jack is married (one of O'bies cousins if memory serves me) and has one child.

So that does it for this month. See you again in March, and I'll be hoping to hear from a lot of you who for some reason or other have been putting off dropping a line this way.

Fund Contributors for 1948 423 Gifts (Participation Index 77). Total gifts: $4,578.90 (86% of objective). LEWIS K. JOHNSTONE, Class Agent.
