THE SEVEN Connecticut Clubs have been fairly quiescent this summer but fall again brings forth renewed activity as things Dartmouth preoccupy Alumni.
The State meeting in May, Connecticut's big event of the year, saw the State organization play host to Dean Neidlinger, Coaches Earl Blaik and Harry Ellinger, and undergraduate footballers, Bob MacLeod and Bob Gibson. As might be expected, football was an important topic of conversation both before and after an excellent dinner accompanied by football movies. However, the highlight of the evening was a very interesting speech by Dean Neidlinger making his first official appearance before Connecticut Alumni. The Western delegation from Stamford and environs, headed by Jack Keating '3O and Ev. Robie 'l7 carried off the circulating cup for the best attendance. This marked the first time that Stamford had won the cup. A team golf prize was presented to Hartford's quartet of luminaries.
In an impressive atmosphere a beautiful bowl was presented to Jack Conners 'l4 by Dick Pritchard 'l4, a classmate, close friend and an associate in business and all things Dartmouth as a token of the esteem in which Connecticut holds Jack Conner® and as a rememberance for his splendid efforts as the retiring Connecticut \Secretary. The annual election of State officers saw Ed Spargo '24 of Bridgeport elected president, with the State meeting to be held in Bridgeport next year, Charlie Rice '23 and Ev Robie '17 named vice presidents and the undersigned becoming state secretary. All in all it was a very successful occasion and a fitting climax to a year of unusual activity for Dartmouth men in this State. During the summer the annual beer and dinner party of Wesleyanites and Dartmouths followed a soft ball game between the sturdier members of these institutions, and let it be said that for the first time, the Dartmouth team not only won, but completely outclassed Wesleyan. The party was a rollicking success and Bridgeport feels that this sort of get-together is very much worthwhile and heartily recommends it to other clubs.
In July the Bridgeport Club again sponsored a play at the Westport Country Playhouse, proceeds from which were donated to Professor Neff for scholarship purposes. Jack Zellers '28 did a fine job aided and abetted by a committee of oldsters and youngsters.
In. New Haven an annual outing of that group was held on June 11 at which Ed Fowler '27 was re-elected president for the ensuing year, Ed Pastore '3l and Ken Foster '26 vice president and treasurer respectively and Gordon Colby '27 secretary for another year. An executive committee was organized to facilitate bigger and better programs and attendance for the coming year.
